How Tawave was born
TAWAVE was born as a bet with ambitious goals: the change, the transformation, and the growth of our city, Taranto.
The beginning of this 'journey', however, is much simpler. A chat between friends who work in the same sector, digital, who found themselves sharing their professional paths over dinner.
On that occasion, we realized that each of our journeys, the one that led us to independence, had the same steps in common, both logistically and emotionally: studies in Northern Italy, the painful conflict between ambitions for professional growth and the desire to come back home, the bold decision to return to Taranto, a wonderful land but with few job opportunities for us young people.
So, talking about that courageous plunge that was our return to the south and how much effort it took to achieve the economic and professional balance we managed to achieve, in the end, we realized we had shared much more than a simple dinner.
Tawave’s aim
Digitalizationplayed a pivotal role in our lives. In fact, we were able to start our professional careers here in Taranto, working both in companies and as freelancers.
Today, the digital sector is growing steadily. Companies started to invest in this sector because of the pandemic. Indeed, crises represent an opportunity for change, because then we try to understand what is not working and find a new strategy and solutions to overcome these difficulties.
Against this backdrop caused by the pandemic, digitalization has represented a crucial tool. Companies that believed in digitalization from the beginning were in an advantageous position compared to those that did not believe in innovation.
Therefore, all of us who work in this sector - passionate about technology, deeply confident in the potential growth that digitalization can offer to everyone, both to companies and consequently also to young people seeking professional stability in their own land - decided to stand together and founded our association “SurfHers”. “SurfHers”.
How surfHers are born
Our all-female association aims to promote digital innovation and technological research. The name SurfHers comes from the word SURFER, because we want to ride the wave of change and involve everyone who is close to this movement. The word 'surfers' is written with the letter H in capital letters, to focus on the pronoun 'HERS' within the word itself and to emphasize our all-female team.
So, wondering where to kickstart things, we concluded that bringing together professionals in this sector, and sharing their experiences and skills with companies in our area, could be the first step in this process of change that needs to be accelerated.
That's how the event TAWAVE was born. The wave of change is the claim we chose: we brought together start-ups, institutions, and digital professionals from all over Italy at a round table to understand together how to help companies in this area grow using technology.
We firmly believe digital innovation can accelerate the growth of Taranto, that the use of technology should support the evolution of human beings to improve their capabilities, not replace them.
